Aunt Dimity & the Village Witch by Nancy Atherton

This book is sweet and comforting and silly and enjoyable.  Perfect if you liked the Mitford series by Jan Karon.  It is part of a series of books (this is number 17 I think?) that revolve around Lori, mother to twins and resident of Finch which is a tiny village somewhere in England.  The residents of Finch know everything about everyone and every event that occurs in their village.  So when a new resident moves in, it is very exciting.  Oh, and Lori has this possessed book through which she convenes with her deceased mother's deceased best friend "Aunt" Dimity.  Dimity is also the reason Lori, an American, lives in Finch.  When Dimity died, she left her cottage in Finch and the book to Lori whom she had never met.  So if you are looking for a new, light series, I would recommend these.

The Wolf Gift by Anne Rice

Anne Rice's werewolf book.  Ehh.  Apparently going to be the first in a series.  Some people will love this book (if you like her, if you liked Twilight, etc.)

The Proposal by Mary Balogh

This is a somewhat silly romancey type novel.  It was good but you have probably read a million books with the same plot line. 

The Bachelor List by Jane Feather

This was the first book I borrowed from the library for my Kindle! This book is about three sisters Constance, Prudence and Chastity. It is part of a series, each one focusing on one of the sisters and her search for love. It is a 'romance' book. I did like the story and the characters and would be interested in reading about the other sisters but this is truly just a silly bubble gum book. Good if you are looking for that kind of thing.

As Husbands Go by Susan Isaacs

Susie B Anthony Rabinowitz Gersten is married to a doctor, has 4 year old triplet boys, uninvolved parents and snobbish in-laws. One morning she realizes that her husband never made it home from work. After a week or so, his body is discovered in the apartment of a prostitute. But Susie is convinced that her husband would never have gone to a prostitute and does some sluething to figure out what happened.

I might have liked this book if I didn't HATE the main character. She is shallow and annoying and annoying. You might like this book. I skimmed to the end just to see what happened.

On This Day: A Novel by Melody Carlson

Someone's getting married! But this story is about the guests: the bride's best friend who is newly engaged, her aunt who is sick of her husband, her grandmother who is missing her departed husband, her grooms' boss' wife who is being cheated on, and maybe some other charecter who isn't memorable?

Anyway, this is a cute book about women, most of whom I found slightly annoying. But it was cute. Good book for the beach, you can leave it there when you leave!

Oh!!! The other charecter is her sister-in-law who is insecure and a new mother. I liked her.

Maybe This Time by Jennifer Cruise

This book is chick lit with a twist of ghosts, orphans, haunted mansion and quirkiness. It was cute and romantic and I liked it.

Andie is divorced and shows up at her ex-husband (of 10 years) to hand over all 10 years worth of uncashed alimony checks. She is getting remarried and wants to be done with him. He asks her to do him one last favor and go take care of 2 orphans who are in his charge. They are troubled and it's a bad situation that he has held at arms-length (it's not the strongest story line ever). So she goes and the house is haunted and all kinds of hi-jinks occur. It's an interesting mix of silly romance novel with a bit of a mystery (but not much of one). I did like it though. It was 'cute'.

Revenge of the Kudzu Debutantes: A Novel by Cathy Holton

Three friends, living outside Atlanta, decide to take control of their lives and get revenge on the husbands who have done them wrong. They will lie, cheat, and blackmail in order to regain control over their lives.

This book is cute and fun and interesting.

Bad Heir Day by Wendy Holden

The best way to describe Bad Heir Day is to refer to it as 'British'. It is very much in the vein of Bridget Jones. Anna, the main character is dating a complete ass of a man and suddenly isn't and is homeless to boot. She accepts the job of a writer's assistant, but really becomes the live-in nanny to the worst child alive. She does meet another nanny who offers inspiration and advice. There are several zany adventures and a nice, wrapped-up ending. A great book to take on vacation. I liked it, but eventually will forget all about it.

Twenties Girl by Sophie Kinsella

I am not sure why I picked this book up. I have read other books by this same author and they are alright, but not really my thing. Basically a woman, Lara, attends her great aunt Sadie's funeral only to become haunted by the Sadie's ghost.

Sadie wants Lara to find her lost necklace and to lighten up and have some fun. Various hi-jinx occur. Oh the fun.

Boring. Not much to talk about. Good vacation book.

Cream Puff Murder by Joanne Fluke

Do not read this if you are dieting. This is from a series of books that revolve around the owner of a bakery. At the end of every chapter there is a recipe for cookies, cake, pie, etc. Not only does the owner of the bakery make each of this desserts and describe them in detail but she also solves crimes. The book was alright, nothing that will change your life (except that you might gain five pounds). I think this would be a perfect book to read around the holidays where you want something fun and are looking for some great things to bake.

Summer on Blossom Street by Debbie Macomber

This is the 5th book in the Blossom Street Series (The Shop on Blossom Street, A Good Yarn, Back on Blossom Street, 20 Wishes). The series is centered on the activities of A Good Yarn which is a yarn shop on Blossom Street. These books are like comfort food. Nice people, good stories. I could read them over and over and still enjoy them. Perfect for a cozy fall day of curling up with a good book.
In this installment, the owner of the yarn store has taken in a 12 year old girl as a foster child while waiting to adopt an infant (she can't have children because of an earlier bout with cancer as a teen). She has also started a new knitting class to help people quit bad behaviors. This class introduces a couple of new characters: a young woman trying to quit a bad fiance, a man trying to become less stressed. Old friends are here too with their own problems.
I love these books!
